KEYT was founded on September 16, 1953, as KECA-TV. It was originally owned by the Santa Barbara Television Company. KECA-TV was the first television station in Santa Barbara.
In 1986, KECA-TV was sold to Gannett. In 1994, Gannett merged with Belo Corporation to form TEGNA Inc. The call letters were changed to KEYT in 1995.
