KATU 2 was founded on September 15, 1952, as KATU-TV. It was originally owned by the Oregonian Publishing Company. The station’s first broadcast was on September 15, 1952. KATU-TV was the second television station in Portland.
In 1974, KATU 2 was sold to Group W. In 1996, Group W was acquired by Westinghouse Electric Corporation. In 1999, Westinghouse Electric Corporation was acquired by CBS Corporation. In 2000, CBS Corporation spun off its television stations into a new company called CBS Corporation. KATU-TV is now owned by Tegna Inc., which was created in 2014 when Gannett merged with Belo Corporation.
